Anti-Submarine Exercises and Collaborations
INS Vagir will engage in basic, intermediate, and advanced-level anti-submarine exercises. As part of its deployment, these exercises will test the submarine‘s capabilities. And also provide an opportunity for collaboration and learning during joint operation.
Travelling 7000 Kms in one go, INS Vagir will take part in different drills on the West Coast of Australia.. Royal Australian Navy (RAN) submarine and the Indian Naval P8I plane will also join for training sessions. This joint exercise will make IN and RAN work better together.
P-8I: The best sea defense for the 21st Century. One of the most modern planes made by Boeing. The P-8I was made for long-range anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) tasks. On January 23, 2023, the Indian Navy proudly commissioned the INS Vagir. INS incoporated its fifth stealth Scorpene class submarine, into its fleet. The commissioning took place in Mumbai at the Naval Dockyard. Adm. R. Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, presided over the occasion.
INS Vagir, launched on November 12, 2020 as part of $3.75 bn Project 75 (P75). The historic event marked a significant milestone in indigenous submarine manufacturing. The diesel-electric attack submarine is a testament to India’s commitment to self-reliance in the defense sector.
It was built by Mumbai, India’s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), and partnering with France’s M/s Naval Group. The commissioning of India’s INS Vagir coincides with the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” ceremonies.
Notably, the INS Vagir boasts the swiftest construction time for indegenous manufactured submarine. It is included as part of Western Naval Command’s Submarine fleet. Speaking on the ocassion emphasized that the
