Neo-noir was a popular American genre from around 1940 to 1960, after World War II. Neo-noir is a resurgence of this style. The French name film noir translates to “dark film” in English since the films were often quite dark, literally and figuratively, with ominous stories generally presented in a gloomy cinematic atmosphere.
