In Christian architecture, a church bell is a bell that is rung in a church for a variety of religious purposes and may be heard outside the building. They are traditionally used to summon people to the church for a communal service and to announce the prescribed times of daily Christian prayer known as the canonical hours, which number seven and are contained in breviaries.
